All Cubes are not equal – at least, not when it comes to
Speedcubing! Of course, competitors can only use genuine,
properly-licensed Rubik’s Cubes in official WCA events, but it
takes quite a bit of work to get a Cube into ‘competition shape’.
The top speedcubers spend hours loosening up their favourite
Cubes, applying special silicone lubricant to enable them to twist
the faces faster.
Now Japanese Games developer Megahouse has come up with the ‘do-it-yourself’ Cube –
equally great for serious Speedcubers, absolute beginners – and everyone else in between. The
kit, likely to help open up even more types of outlet for the Cube (craft and museum shops,
duty-frees etc.) comes complete with stickered coloured segments, mini-screwdrivers and
lubricant – everything needed to build a potentially record-breaking Cube.
